Residence permit conversion · study → work

Convert your study permit into a work permit in Italy

If you are in Italy with a study residence permit and you have found a job, you can convert it into a work permit without leaving the country. It is one of the longest procedures, because it needs documents from three different parties: you, the company hiring you and the owner of the home you live in.

We coordinate all three, so your application is complete when it is submitted.

Requirements

Who can apply for the conversion

  • Anyone with a study residence permit that is still valid.
  • Anyone with a job offer for employment with a company in Italy, for more than 20 hours a week.
  • Anyone who has completed their studies in Italy. If you are at university, you can apply for the conversion before you graduate.

The conversion is outside the quotas: it does not depend on the Decreto Flussi and the application can be submitted at any time of year.

If you have finished your studies but don't have a job yet, you can apply for a job-seeking residence permit (ricerca lavoro), which gives you time to find one while staying in Italy legally.

Documents

The documents, party by party

Your documents

Procedure

How it works

  1. Assessment. In the first call we check whether the conversion is possible in your case and how long it will take.
  2. Documents. We ask you, your employer and your landlord only for what each of you needs to provide.
  3. Housing certificate. We help you obtain the certificate from the municipality.
  4. Application. As an authorised agency, we prepare and submit the conversion application directly on the Ministry of the Interior portal.
  5. Signature and new permit. We prepare you for the appointment to sign the residence contract (contratto di soggiorno) and for the new permit application.

On average, preparing and submitting the application takes 2-3 months.
